N.E.C. is zeker niet kansloos. Niet alleen omdat Ajax midweeks in en tegen Olympique Lyon speelde. Door alle zeilen bij te zetten, moet de Nijmeegse eredivisionist thuis een goed resultaat neer kunnen zetten.

In that role, he had visited de Toekomst before, during the AEGON Future Cup. “But now that I’m here alone, I really have the chance to take it all-in and learn a lot. I hope Ajax can learn from Liverpool, too. That would make this information exchange useful for both parties. It’s always good to see how youth academies in other countries are organized. AFC Ajax have lost Siem de Jong for their UEFA Champions League trip to Olympique Lyonnais after the 22-year-old suffered a thigh injury while fellow midfielder Theo Janssen is a doubt after succumbing to a hamstring problem.

Ajax’s 6-4 defeat at FC Utrecht on Sunday was painful in more ways than one for De Jong, as the Dutch international was substituted after four minutes of the Eredivisie encounter after tearing his thigh muscle while sprinting for the ball.
